Thirsty for some art?

I installed four paintings and a charcoal drawing at the liquor store in the Maple Grove Whole Foods this week. The artwork will be on display through September.

Given the setting, it seemed appropriate to have a couple alcohol-themed pieces

Arbor Lakes Art Fair 2019!

Arbor Lakes Art Fair 2019

The Arbor Lakes Art Fair is this Saturday and Sunday in Maple Grove! It is my third and final art fair of the summer, after Grand Old Day in St. Paul and the Wayzata Art Experience in Wayzata. Last year, this was my first art fair ever and I was honored as the Emerging Artist of the Year. I am hoping for good weather--this is typically the hottest weekend of the year (at least it feels like it). So long as it's not raining, I'll be fine.

The photo is from my booth at the Wayzata Art Experience two weeks ago.

Warm Bulb

oil on gessobord, 7x5"

I bought a garlic bulb a week or two ago and finally got around to painting it. I positioned a light just a few inches above the garlic and wanted to capture the way the color temperatures of the cool spotlight and the warm ambient room light interacted on the surface.

Paintings on display at Maple Grove Government Center

Need to schedule a building inspection? Want to see some art? Then visit the Maple Grove Government Center! Last week I hung seven paintings there. They'll be up through June.

Struck by Morning Light

Oil 30x24"

Early last fall, I took a morning walk through Elm Creek Park--with camera in tow--and took lots of reference photos. In this moment, I was struck by the sunlight coming through the trees and lighting the pathway in front of me, telling me where to go. I did a small, acrylic version inspired by this image a couple weeks ago and used the lessons I learned from that painting to make this large oil last week.
